Augusta – Immigrants, faith leaders and human rights advocates will gather at the Maine State House on Thursday, April 20 at noon to urge lawmakers to reject LD 366, an anti-immigrant bill sponsored by Rep. Larry Lockman (R-Amherst) that would punish towns and cities that choose not to participate in federal immigration enforcement.

Like other “anti-sanctuary city” bills around the country, LD 366 would force local law enforcement to act like federal immigration agents, and punish towns and cities that choose not to do so by withholding all state funds.

Across the country, law enforcement agents, government officials, immigrant communities and advocates have been speaking out against similar proposals.
