Nell joined the ACLU of Maine as a paralegal in June 2023. She was excited to join a team of thoughtful, capable people committed to the mission of protecting and expanding the civil rights and liberties of all people in Maine.
In her role, Nell supports the policy team to advance advocacy efforts and the legal team with litigation in state and federal courts. She is also working to improve the organization’s process for receiving, reviewing, and responding to requests for legal assistance.
Before joining the ACLU of Maine, Nell was a Fulbright grantee in Colombia where she taught English and assisted with research on wellbeing and resilience among the Venezuelan migrant population. Prior to that, she worked as a project analyst at Mintz Levin, supporting several of its practice groups, and its government relations arm, for example by attending legislative hearings and undertaking policy research. While there she was also heavily involved in pro bono work, handling numerous immigration-related cases.
Nell earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies from Harvard College, where she also minored in Spanish and earned a certificate in Latin American Studies.
In her free time, Nell loves spending time in nature – whether skiing in her home state of Vermont or simply sitting in a park with a book. She also enjoys sports, especially soccer, having played in amateur leagues in the United States, the Netherlands, Chile, and Colombia.
